Achievement Unlocked

At roughly 11:30pm on Thursday, July 31st, 2008, at the wishing well next to Sleeping Beauty's Castle in Disneyland, I asked Rebecca a Really Important Question(tm).

She said yes.

Up-to-date on "next-gen"

Well, I finally picked up a PS3 this weekend, thanks to fortuitously finding an 80gb Metal Gear Solid pack available at Target.  It's not hooked up yet, but so far I'm unimpressed for two reasons: 1. It's a "next-gen" console, but only comes with Composite cables (hence the reason it's not hooked up yet... I need to pick up an HDMI cable tonight).  and 2. The thing is freakin' huge!  Like, bigger than the original Xbox huge... the thing won't even fit next to my other consoles because the damn thing is too tall to fit on the shelf when in vertical orientation.

Oh well, at least now I have all 3 current-gen consoles, and I finally have a blu-ray player to really make use of my HDTV (the real reason for getting it ^^).  Not to mention that I can pack away my PS2, and have a wireless console logged in to Final Fantasy XI, without the stupid account link that Xbox Live requires.

I'll have to have some movie parties soon, since I also added blu-ray capability to my Netflix account ^^

New additions to the family

Friday, Rebecca brought home two new family members to the apartment.  Please meet Morgan (on the right) and Merlin (on the left):

kittens

Please feel free to come over and visit the new kittens, as we want to make sure they get a lot of social interaction.

Can I see some ID?

I was just carded while buying root beer in the grocery store.  I'm not sure whether I should be annoyed or flattered.

In search of Bubble Tea

I've been jonesing for some bubble tea lately.  Unfortunately, the bubble tea place that Rebecca and I used to go to in the International District has closed :(

Does anyone have any recommendations for really good bubble tea in the Seattle area?  Preferably somewhat near Greenlake, Greenwood or the U-District, so I don't have to drive for half an hour just to get a fix.  Also preferably someplace that uses real fruit :)

Must-see movies

Now that Rebecca and I are moved in to the new apartment, I've replaced my old 19" television with a big-ass LCD (one of these), and we've gotten a Netflix account. So, now we have to populate our Netflix queues with lots and lots of movies :)

So I'm going to steal Rebecca's idea and ask everyone on my friends list this question: What movies out there do you consider as a must see? What movies can you think of where you say "How can you have lived this long and never seen _____? Have you been living under a rock?" I know there are plenty of these types of movies that neither of us has seen before, and we want to correct this. Maybe we can even have periodic movie nights to help out other people who've never seen some of these movies :)

The hidden danger of Guitar Hero

I must have a phobia of free time or something... now that my summer class is over, I've decided to use the time I was spending in class to learn something new: electric guitar! I blame it on Guitar Hero.

So this weekend, I got myself one of these: )

I'm probably far too influenced by pop culture for my own good... the whole reason I wanted to play piano when I was 6 was because of Rowlf on the Muppet Show. And now this. God help me when Rock Band comes out for the 360!

The influence of music

Note to self: Listening to The Cure while trying to write your annual review probably isn't the best way to come up with positive comments about what you did in the past year.

Long overdue update and request for contact info

So, I guess I should update this at some point before some of my friends leave for other journal services due to the Great LJ Fuckup of 2007™.

Anyway, I got a new toy to play with yesterday: a snazzy new white Blackberry Pearl (8100). This purchase was somewhat sudden, as I really had no plans to replace my cell phone any time soon. Apparently my subconscious had other plans and neglected to remind me to remove said old cell phone from my pant pockets before doing laundry. Oops! Oh well, the old phone was over 2 years old, so it's a good excuse to get something new. Now I just have to figure out how to use this Blackberry and then I can start trying to make it do all sorts of stuff it's not designed to do ^^

The new phone/PDA is where the request for contact info comes in. Apparently I was stupid and saved my contacts to my old phone rather than the SIM card. So, I've got an empty address book on the Blackberry. This needs to be remedied. If you think I should have your contact info, email me the info at orf at perkygoth dot net. I'm not screening comments, so don't post the info here unless you want it searchable by the the general Internet public. The Blackberry can store primary email addresses, as well as snail mail addresses and phone numbers, so send me whatever you want me to have.

My other (somewhat) recent acquisition is this! I had meant to post about this back when I got it in early March, but Rebecca couldn't find the cable for her digital camera to get the pictures off of it. It's not the most practical car out there, but damn is it fun to drive! And I find that driving in the sunshine with the top down and bouncy music playing to be good stress relief. I consider it my mid-life crisis car XD Having a convertible also necessitates trips to the beach now that it's warm out.

In other news, work has been stressful, but I seem to be managing things. My job would be so much better if I knew what the hell I was doing, but that'll come with time, assuming I don't have a mental breakdown first.

I think I'll end this here before I'm reduced to random triviality. I'll leave you with a picture of the most awesome keyboard ever! )

Low-key birthday celebration

My birthday's coming up next week, and wouldn't you know it, I've got a final that night >_<

Anyway, I'm thinking of going to Charlies for dinner and drinks after I get home from school that night (should be around 8pm-ish). If you're free next Tuesday (the 20th), please come out to Charlies, 'cause I'd love some company! Just let me know before 5pm that day if you plan to attend, so I know how big of a table to ask for (and I won't have access to my computer or phone while I'm taking my exam after work).
